Guide for Authors

Asian Journal of Atmospheric Environment (AJAE) is a multidisciplinary forum for the publication of original researches relevant to the nature, distribution, control technology, and ecological effects of all types and forms of chemical and biological constituents as well as physical phenomena in the atmosphere and between the atmosphere and other environmental spheres. Subjects also include findings from reexamination and interpretation of existing data and critical reviews of important issues. Preferred articles are of potential significance to the atmospheric science and engineering, with practical scope and applicability in the areas of atmospheric science and engineering. Authors are encouraged to provide new theoretical concepts supported by new experimental details. Contribution from all around the world is heartily welcome and AJAE has also a great interest in the communication between researchers in Asian and the Pacific countries.

AJAE is devoted to the advancement of knowledge in the fields listed below. Five types of manuscripts are published in AJAE:

(1) research articles, (2) review articles, (3) technical information, (4) special features, and (5) discussion and reply.

- Atmospheric measurements and analysis
- Current status and management
- Dispersion and reaction
- Control technology
- Global environment
- Health and ecological effect
- Indoor air quality
- Other related fields

Research Articles: Original findings pertaining to the scope of AJAE journal will be published after peerreview. In full-length research articles, authors can describe new experimental or theoretical results of significant importance. Articles of merit will be accepted for publication based on the judgment of three reviewers.

Review Articles: Authoritative review can be published either by the invitation or by direct submission. In both cases, the work will be subject to peer-review by three reviewers. The review article should include critical review of important areas in atmospheric science and engineering.
Technical Information: A report, that includes relevant analytical or treatment information, new experimental elaboration on previous journal articles, etc., with a brief piece of work, although not sufficiently comprehensive for a full article, can be published as technical information.
Special Features: Special features will be published by invitation only and will be on atmospheric environmental topics judged to be important by AJAE editorial board.
Discussions and Reply: Opinion and comments regarding the contents of articles published in AJAE within one year period can be published as discussion and reply paper.

(1) For submission of manuscript (ms), it is recommended to be prepared using the MS Word program. The ms should then be submitted through AJAE ScholarOne Manuscripts submission platform (its direct link is
(2) There is no limit to the length of manuscripts, but it is recommended not to exceed a total of 30 pages (A4 size) including figures and tables.
(3) Manuscript must be double-spaced and single-sided with margins of 25 mm on all sides in A4 size and Asian Journal of Atmospheric Environment Guide for Authors fonts should be 12 point.

The arrangement and format for research articles are described below. The manuscript is arranged in the following order: Title, Authors, Affiliations, Abstract, Keywords, Main Text, Acknowledgement, Appendices, References, Tables, and Figures.

Title page: The title should emphasize main objective to be covered by the article. Use full names for all authors and, in a footnote, indicate the author to whom correspondence should be directed, corresponding authors phone number, and email address. Give the addresses of all the institutions with which each author is affiliated.
Abstract: The abstract should state briefly the purpose of the research, the principal results, and major conclusions in no more than 300 words.
Key Words: At least five key words for the subject index need to be provided.
Introduction: The manuscript begins with an introduction written for the specialist. This section includes the background and objective of the work, together with the introduction of prior relevant works.
Manuscript Body: The manuscript body would include experimental method, materials, results of the investigation, and the clear protocol of the study. Results need to be described with appropriate experimental and/or numerical support. The manuscript should be concise without details that are readily available in previously published materials. Text may be sectionalized by inserting appropriate headings. For a review article, authors may choose the format suitable for the topic and scope of the review article.
Conclusions: In the conclusion section, key findings are highlighted and the comparison of the current results with others is provided appropriately. Conclusions need to be based on the scientific argument presented in the article.
Acknowledgement: Acknowledgement section is placed at the end of manuscript body, where financial and other supports can be cited.
Appendices: If there is more than one appendix, they should be identified as A, B, etc. Formulae and equations in appendices should be given separate numbering: Eq. (A.1), Eq. (A.2), etc.; in a subsequent appendix, Eq. (B.1) and so on.

Citation in text : Authors should ensure that every reference cited in the text is also present in the reference list (and vice versa). Any references cited in the abstract must be given in full. Unpublished results and personal communications are not recommended in the reference list. Citation of a reference as 쐇n press implies that the item has been accepted for publication.

Web references : As a minimum, the full URL and the date when the reference was last accessed should be given.

Reference Style : Responsibility for the accurate bibliographic citations lies entirely with the authors. All publications cited in the text should be presented in a list of references following the text of the manuscript. The list of references should be arranged first alphabetically and then further sorted chronologically if necessary.
In the text, refer to the author셲 name (without initials) and year of publication (e.g. 쏛s Roosevelt (2004) reported that... or 쏷his is in agreement with results obtained later (Hwang, 2000)). For three or more authors, use the first author followed by 쐃t al. in the text.
In the list of references, cite all authors; i.e., 쁢t al. is not sufficient. Use full journal names. References should be given in the following form:
(1) Articles
- Kim, C.-H., Lee, H.-J., Kang, J.-E., Jo, H.-Y., Park, S.-Y., Jo, Y.-J., Lee, J.-J., Yang, G.-H., Park, T., Lee, T. (2017) Meteorological Overview and Signatures of Long-range Transport Processes during the MAPS-Seoul 2015 Campaign, Aerosol and Air Quality Research, 18(9), 2173-2184,
(2) Books
- Cholay, C.D., Ellwood, C.E. (1993) Introduction to gas sampling. In Evaluatum of Analytical Methods for Traces Gas Sampling (Biero, V. and Putnam, G.E. Eds), Universal Publications Inc., New York, pp. 11-23.
- Martin, E.J., Johnson, J.H. Jr. (1988) Hazardous Waste Management. (2nd Ed.), McGrw-Hill, New York, pp. 391-410. Tables and Figures : Tables and figures (both numbered in Arabic numerals) are placed after the references section. For the reproduction of figures, good quality of drawings and photographs need to be accepted. Units and Equations : SI system must be used for all dimensional quantities. All equations should be numbered in Arabic numerals.

All the submitted manuscripts to AJAE are checked for plagiarism before peer review using Crossref Similarity Check, powered by iThenticate. The result of a similarity check will be reported to editors in chief and associate editors. If the similarity score is over 30%, the manuscript will be rejected without the review.

All manuscripts are subject to editorial peer-review. Manuscripts considered for possible publication are forwarded to three reviewers for the evaluation of their scientific merit and technical soundness. The review process can be reconsider three times if the request of minor or major revisions is suggested by reviewers. If two review do not agree to accept the journal, it is reviewed and publish on the decision of the manuscript Editor. The finally accepted manuscript will be reviewed by manuscript editor for the consistency of the format and criteria. The final, revised manuscript is scheduled for publication in the next available issue. The submitted manuscripts should not be under simultaneous consideration by any other journal.

Unless indicated otherwise, galley proof will be sent to the corresponding author and should be returned as quickly as possible.

The publication fee is free. The reprint cost is US$1 per additional 1 copy. The color printing fee is US$120 per color page. The publication cost is subjected to change according to the society셲 financial situation. Invited articles are free of publication charge.

Submission of an article for publication implies the transfer of the copyright from the authors to the publisher upon acceptance. Accepted papers become the permanent property of AJAE and may not be reproduced by any means, in whole or in part, without the written consent of the publisher or the Editor. It is the author셲 responsibility to obtain permission to reproduce illustrations, tables, etc. from other publications.

For the policies on the research and publication ethics which are not stated in this instruction, international standards for editors and authors ( can be applied.

AJAE journals are scheduled to be published quarterly on the last days of March, June, September, and December.
